Victory whoop by Hyderabad Hotshots, Saina Nehwal, Ajay Jayaram, bag IBL title
Jubilation time, folks, Saina Nehwal’s team makes it to the victory stands! The badminton icon player has placed seven matches in her kitty and was awarded with the player of the Indian Badminton League (IBL)tournament.
Inaugural Indian Badminton League (IBL) tournament
Amidst the loud booming signature songs that were played to keep the public busy during ‘strategic time-outs’, The Hyderabad Hotshots proved their mettle at the National Sports Club of India on Saturday. They snatched the trophy of the inaugural Indian Badminton League (IBL) title from the Lucknow-based Awadhe Warriors.
On Saturday, the match games organized at the the National Sports Club of India (NSCI) saw The Hyderabad Hotshots led by Saina Nehwal, turn victorious over the Lucknow-based Awadhe Warriors .
The team of the ace player took home the inaugural Indian Badminton League (IBL) title and the same prompted Saina to say that next year the competition would be all the more cut-throat. She also stated that the IBL will soon be luring people like the IPL. And why not, IBL league is the world’s richest tournament in badminton.
Hyderabad Hotshots win
Saina, Goh V. Shem and Lim Khim Wah, and Ajay Jayaram were triumphant in their own matches and proudly carried the IBL Final title back home. The frenzied crowds, which went into the lap of glee and excitement, on hearing the famous jingle of Saina Nehwal, showed their extreme faith in the badminton player. She received their loud support and eventually didn’t let them down.
The Awadhe Warriors showed a very promising beginning as Kidambi Srikanth made a satisfied conquest by beating Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk in the men’s singles, leading his team by 1-0.
After the match finished, an excited Srikanth stated, “The beginning was tough but after the first interval I was able to increase the gap. This gave me confidence to play my game. I remained focused and even though Tanongsak gave me great fight in the second game, the match went in our favor.”
But this wasn’t to be for long as Saina, the icon player, stepped in to play the women’s singles and defeated Awadhe Warrior’s P.V. Sindhu for the second time in the IBL tournament. In 36 minutes, Saina was crowned the winner and Sindhu’s scoreboard showed 15-21, 7-21 points.
For Saina this was her seventh victory. Holding the tag of 4th best in the world, Saina was crowned the player of the tournament as she stayed winner till the end, the excited girl promptly exclaimed at the dailies “I would like to thank my fans who have supported me all through. Sindhu played really well and gave her best but I managed to outwit her. I have been really lucky during the entire league to have won all my matches.”
R.M.V. Gurusaidutt took the first game from under the nose of Hotshots’ Jayaram . Not the one to give up easily Mumbai-based Jayaram bounced back in the rest of the games and went on to win the deciding match. The Hotshots carried a win of Rs. 3.25 crores in all!
