Lucknow, August 17, 2013: The 1st day of the Lucknow Leg in the path-breaking Vodafone IBL saw intense competition between both the teams. Pune Pistons secured a well deserved 3-2 lead over Mumbai Masters today.
In the Women’s singles Schenk lost the first set but came back fiercely in the 2nd and 3rd set beating Tine Baun. Both the matches of Men’s singles saw each team winning one game. Vladimir Ivanov won both the Men’s Singles and Men’s doubles hence continuing with the winning form”.
Post their win Ashwini Ponnapa said “It’s a happy feeling to sit on the top on the points tally table. In the Mixed Doubles initially we both were not very strong but then we fought hard and won. Pune Pistons hopes to continue this winning streak in the League”.
Vladmir Ivanov who won Vodafone Player of the Tie at Delhi earlier and Lucknow today said “I am very happy that I won the Men’s Singles as well as the Men’s Doubles today in front of the cheering Lucknow crowd. Lee Chong Wei is joining us from the Mumbai leg which will take some pressure off my shoulders.”
Post her win Schenk said “it was a tough win and I am happy that I maintained my speed and mental balance. She was amazing in the second round but I am happy with the outcome.”
Post their win Pranav J Copra said “Me and Vladmir have played against each in the past but this was the first time that we played together. It was a very exciting experience to be on the same side of the net. I have a 2nd match to go today and hoping to go to Mumbai with another win”.
Post his win Nyugen Tien Minh said “In my last match in Delhi I lost to Sai as I was very tired, now that I won the match here today I feel more confident and am all geared up for the next match”.

The $1-million Vodafone Indian Badminton League started on August 14, 2013, with some high-voltage action. The 2013 IBL will feature six franchises and will run for 18 days. Each franchise will host a two-day leg and the League will showcase a grand total of 90 matches, providing broadcasters and in-stadia spectators with more than 100 hours of LIVE “family entertainment” which will also be viewed by a significant international audience. The matches will be held during late afternoon and evening to coincide with prime time television and providing a convenient time for the stadium audience.
The top four franchises in the Vodafone IBL will clash in the semi-finals and the winners will meet in the grand final on August 31, which will be played in Mumbai, for the richest prize money tournament in badminton till now.
