New Delhi, August 17, 2013: The first day of the Lucknow leg of the high-voltage Vodafone IBL witnessed action-packed matches between Krrish Delhi Smashers vs Hyderabad Hotshots. The Krrish Delhi Smashers took off the Vodafone IBL with a 3-2 lead over Hyderabad Hotshots. The match tally is as follows:

Speaking on her Team’s win over Hyderabad Hotshots Jwala Gutta said “it was a great team effort and a grand win. I hope we keep up our winning form in Mumbai”.

Speaking on her team’s performance Saina Nehwal said “it was a disappointing day for the team. Our strategy in the Doubles went wrong as we tried to get a new team to play. The crowd support is very encouraging. IBL has made the sport popular and cheers during the game are only growing.”

“There is no fatigue. The format ensures that all players get sufficient rest despite travel between cities. It is our duty as sportspersons to contribute to the popularity of the game and if we have to go an extra mile for the same, we should not hesitate. Cricket dekhne ke liye bhi to der raat tak jaagte hain, to badminton ke liye kyun nahi?,” she added.

 

Post his win Tanongsak Saemsomboonsuk said “it was not a very tough competition for me and I am happy that I won the game for the team.”

Post their win Kien Keat Koo said “in the second game we had to concentrate a lot because the Hyderabad players played really well. But I am happy that both of us managed to win the match convincingly.”

Post their win V Diju said “Feeling great. Credit goes to Prajakta and its a satisfying and happy feeling that our game helped the team take the lead and win over Hyderabad Hotshots.”

The $1-million Vodafone Indian Badminton League started on August 14, 2013, with some high-voltage action expected between Krrish Delhi Smashers and Pune Pistons. The 2013 IBL will feature six franchises and will run for 18 days. Each franchise will host a two-day leg and the League will showcase a grand total of 90 matches, providing broadcasters and in-stadia spectators with more than 100 hours of LIVE “family entertainment” which will also be viewed by a significant international audience. The matches will be held during late afternoon and evening to coincide with prime time television and providing a convenient time for the stadium audience.

The top four franchises in the Vodafone IBL will clash in the semi-finals and the winners will meet in the grand final on August 31, which will be played in Mumbai, for the richest prize money tournament in badminton till now.
