Hyderabad Hotshots thrashes Pune Pistons by 3 – 0 to enter into finals

Ajay Jayaram wins Vodafone Player of the Tie

Hyderabad, August 28, 2013: The 1st semi-finals of the Vodafone IBL saw thrilling competition between Hyderabad Hotshots and Pune Pistons in Gachibowli stadium today. Hyderabad Hotshots won against Pune Pistons by 3-0.

Earlier in the day, in the Women’s singles category Saina Nehwal registered her sixth win in a row defeating Pune Pistons Schenk Juliane. Hyderabad Hotshots played outstanding match today winning all three ties in the Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles and Men’s doubles category. After winning today’s match, Hyderabad Hotshots entered into the finals to be played in Mumbai on 31st August.

Post their win Goh V Shem said “I was under pressure in the first game. Me and my partner Wah Lim Khim’s smashes became very powerful by the time we reached the end of second game and that is what made us win the match. I am hoping to repeat the same show in the Finals in Mumbai.”

After winning the Women’s Singles Saina Nehwal said “I lost my focus in the 2nd game and was unable to retrieve few shots. Schenk also changed her shots little bit which became quite dangerous. But I just thought about winning for a few seconds and got myself back in action to win the match.”

Ajay Jayaram, Vodafone Player of the Tie said, “It was not a miracle overnight. I was suffering from an injury yesterday and I rested the entire day which really worked well and I won the match. I also changed my strategy a little bit to play against Tien Minh Nyugen.”

Awadhe Warriors Vs Mumbai Masters at 8 pm

The $1-million Vodafone Indian Badminton League started on August 14, 2013, with some high-voltage action. The 2013 IBL will feature six franchises and will run for 18 days. Each franchise will host a two-day leg and the League will showcase a grand total of 90 matches, providing broadcasters and in-stadia spectators with more than 100 hours of LIVE “family entertainment” which will also be viewed by a significant international audience. The matches will be held during late afternoon and evening to coincide with prime time television and providing a convenient time for the stadium audience.

The top four franchises in the Vodafone IBL will clash in the semi-finals and the winners will meet in the grand final on August 31, which will be played in Mumbai, for the richest prize money tournament in badminton till now.
