Hyderabad, August 27, 2013: The 2st day of the Hyderabad Leg of Vodafone IBL saw electrifying competition between Banga Beats and Hyderabad Hotshots. Banga Beats won against Hyderabad Hotshots by 3-2 at Gachibowli stadium here at Hyderabad today.
Earlier in the day, in the Women’s singles category Saina Nehwal won her fifth consecutive match today defeating Banga Beats Ying Tai Tzu. Initially both the matches in the Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles were won by Hyderabad Hotshots but Banga Beats fought well by winning the next two matches in the Men’s doubles and Men’s Singles category. The last match was also won by Banga Beats. Hyderabad Hotshots will play against Pune Pistons in Semi-Finals tomorrow.
Post their win Aparna Balan said “I am happy that I could contribute one victory to my team in the IBL.I was very conscious in the first game and I dropped the shuttle into the net but my partner and coach calmed me down in the interval. We came back well in the second and third game to win the match.”
After winning the Women’s Singles Saina Nehwal said “One side of the court was faster than yesterday which gave me a little problem in the second set. Looking at the crowd in my hometown, I was little bit under pressure that I have to win the match. In third game, I fought hard and kept myself cool so that I can win my game. I am very excited to play the Semi-Finals tomorrow as it will be the first time for me to play in team championship and I am sure my team will give their best.
Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk, Vodafone Player of the Tie said, “It’s always great to play against Kashyap. The last smash was something which I would always like to remember and also like to thank the crowd who has been very supportive.”
Post their win Akshay Dewalkar said “I was under lot of pressure in all the last matches that I played but the suggestion from my coach Srikanth Vad helped me to stay calm today. As a partner, Mogensen always encouraged me to play better whenever I made any mistake. He is the world Champion so I am glad that I got an opportunity to play with him in the IBL.”
Post his win Jan O Jorgensen said “I am happy for my game but a bit disappointed for my opponent Ajay Jayaram who didn’t play his best game. Since Ajay has to play the semi-finals tomorrow, I kept on expecting him to give a good fight but the game went smooth and it did not even lasted for the third game. My overall experience of playing in IBL has been amazing and I would like to come back again next year to play for Banga Beats team.”

The $1-million Vodafone Indian Badminton League started on August 14, 2013, with some high-voltage action. The 2013 IBL will feature six franchises and will run for 18 days. Each franchise will host a two-day leg and the League will showcase a grand total of 90 matches, providing broadcasters and in-stadia spectators with more than 100 hours of LIVE “family entertainment” which will also be viewed by a significant international audience. The matches will be held during late afternoon and evening to coincide with prime time television and providing a convenient time for the stadium audience.
The top four franchises in the Vodafone IBL will clash in the semi-finals and the winners will meet in the grand final on August 31, which will be played in Mumbai, for the richest prize money tournament in badminton till now.
